Updated Advice For Optimal Mini Barrel Use
05 May 2020
Over the last few years we have done extensive trials and
testing on the 22 pint mini barrel to improve their quality and
consistency for you. The result of our work is contained in the
following new pieces of advice...
1. Fully release the metal tap handle after every beer is
poured.

We're asking you to disengage the gas system after each pour. To
pour from a mini barrel you place the tap on top of the barrel and
pull the metal handle of the tap down, engaging the mini barrel's
gas tank. To disengage the gas, you just lift the tap's metal
handle up and back. You don't need to completely remove the tap
every time, just pull that metal handle fully back.
The idea is this will help preserve the gas supply which helps
your beer pour. By leaving the tap on and gas engaged for extended
periods of time, you risk running out of gas and causing the beer
to become increasingly fobby (frothy).
2. When transporting the barrel, completely remove the tap

If you leave the tap on the barrel and it falls over during
transportation the tap can break.
3. Hold down the tap firmly when closing the metal
lever by pressing the back of the tap as you close the
lever.

Creating a strong seal between the tap and barrel will give you
the best chance of great pouring beer.
4.Fobbing Issues - Your Beer is
Frothy!

Fobbing can occur if the beer gets too warm or is allowed to
absorb too much gas. Over-gassing can occur if the tap is left in
the engaged position for extended periods of time, allowing that
gas to be absorbed. You can limit the chance of over-gassed
beer by disengaging the tap after you've poured your
beer.
Happy pouring. If you have any questions, please give us a call
